If you have a lot of bad sectors then retire the drive to additional backup land or treat it as volatile storage and play with fire because not everyone gets burned and you might actually get by just fine. If any pop up on a drive out of warranty I'd zero fill it and do a surface test before putting it back into use. The manufacturer is supposed to catch them all and do it at the factory, so any popping up is generally a bad sign and makes it more risky to continue using it IMO. I'd still RMA any drive within warranty period that has reallocated sectors showing up. By default this is hexadecimal but you can change this to a standard number by clicking on Function -> Advanced Features -> Raw Values and setting it to ’10 DEC’. I don't rely on them for anything though but the point is they've been stable and have remained so for years. I have a few drives with thousands of remapped sectors that I zero filled years ago and they still read/write verified data fine to this day without problems. So long as the drive's condition is stable a few remaps really isn't the end of the world. 1,000 reallocated sectors may sound like a lot but that's only only 512KB or 4MB of data depending on the sector size. Thanks for your message and thanks for selecting Hard Disk Sentinel. This is true and something people usually don't realize. Re: Reallocated Sectors Count keeps growing. It's very possible that you can have some bad sectors and still get many years of reliable life out of a drive.
